The NARPANI Community Carnival 2023 was held at D’Marquee, Downtown East on Sunday, 16 July 2023.  The event was the first mass event organised by the NARPANI Pearavai since the pandemic and had reached out to about 4,000 residents. Mr Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies as well as Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information, and Health, and Adviser to NARPANI Pearavai, had participated in the carnival to meet and mingle with residents. The carnival was organised in collaboration with 21 community partners and government agencies which aims to promote social bonding among the Indian community as well as with other Singaporeans.  The partners supported with carnival booths activities, programmes and performances.  With support from SINDA to encourage inclusivity, about 500 underprivileged residents were also invited to the carnival.

The highlight of the day was NARPANI Pearavai’s attempt to set the Singapore Book of Records (SBOR) which had 395 participants perform the “Oyilattam” dance in collaboration with AK Theatre Limited. Oyilattam is an aesthetics communal dance form of South India that depicts grace and beauty.  The steps can easily be picked up by both men and women, young and old. The NARPANI Pearavai had met up with various dance representatives to conduct dance practices for volunteers and grassroots leaders, held at various community centres/clubs prior the event.  The programme lasted the whole afternoon where participants could either visit ‘Wild Wild Wet’ for a splashing good time or stay in D’Marquee for cultural performances by community partners or Zee TV.
