Singapore Indian Heritage is the Indian Heritage Centre’s (IHC) first publication since the centre’s opening in 2015. It comprises essays by respected scholars and IHC’s curators on different aspects of Indian heritage, as told through the centre’s permanent galleries. It also features the centre’s collection of over 300 artefacts, photographs and documents. Edited by Professors Rajesh Rai and A Mani, the publication is an important addition to the compilation of writings on Singapore’s Indian community, and in particular on the community’s cultural heritage. With a foreword by Ambassador Gopinath Pillai, the book stands at a total of 556 pages.
Singapore Indian Heritage traces the extensive journey of Singapore’s Indian community from pre-colonial to post-independence, and illustrates their diverse contributions to Nation-building. These stories are beautifully complemented by stunning pictures and catalog entries of more than 300 artefacts from the centre’s collection.
Singapore Indian Heritage is a meaningful souvenir for visitors to the IHC who are interested in gaining a more in-depth understanding of the narrative of our permanent galleries, and the centre’s collection of artefacts. It also serves as a good source of research and information for history and arts students, researchers and academics, or anyone else keen to find out more about the multi-faceted story of the Indians in Singapore.

IHC Resource Library
To further its standing as a leading and respected heritage institution for research and museum excellence, IHC also houses the IHC Resource Library, which stores an unique collection of rare publications, archival documents, photographs, festival videos showcasing the community’s rich intangible cultural heritage, as well as oral history interviews of veterans and pioneers from Singapore’s Indian community. The IHC Resource Library is open to the public every Friday afternoon from 2.00pm to 6.00pm, and entry is by appointment . Books are available for borrowing, while some materials are available for in-room referencing.
