between 12.30pm – 1.30pm.
Joint Tuition Awards (JTA)
The Self-Help Groups (SHGs) comprising the Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC), the Eurasian Association (EA), the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) and Yayasan MENDAKI, have held the Joint Tuition Awards ceremony since 2004, to recognise the academic improvement of their tuition students who sat for the PSLE, GCE N and O- Levels examinations.
Collaborative Tuition Programme (CTP)
In 2002, the SHGs launched the Collaborative Tuition Programme (CTP) to allow students from low income families access to affordable tuition programmes. The classes are held islandwide and provide greater convenience and accessibility to the students and their families. The number of collaborative tuition centres has grown steadily over the years from 11 centres (with 832 tuition students) to 123 centres (with 9,107 students) now.
Self-Help Groups Jointly Celebrate Students’ Achievement
The Chinese Development Assistance Council, the Eurasian Association, the Singapore Indian Development Association and Yayasan MENDAKI are jointly organised the 18th Joint Tuition Awards Ceremony to celebrate the achievements of students from all four races who attended the Collaborative Tuition Programme (CTP).
This year’s ceremony was graced by Minister for Education, Mr Chan Chun Sing. Minister Chan will be presenting the Best Overall Academic Awards for the PSLE, GCE N and O-Level categories from the four Self-Help Groups.
A total of 630 students from the four Self-Help Groups were recognised for achieving good results at the PSLE, GCE N and O-Level examinations this year. Due to the Safe Management Measures, all students were not be able to present at the Ceremony. Special arrangements were made for the students to collect their certificates and book vouchers at designated locations.
During his speech, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education said that ‘The SHGs play an important role in fostering strong bonds across communities of different races. They are also our key partners in education, working closely with our schools to provide subsidised tuition, mentoring, and befriending programmes to students. In particular, I am heartened to see that the Collaborative Tuition Programme, or “CTP” in short, jointly run by the four SHGs, is into its 19th year of supporting students from all races’.
