The anniversary of Singapore vasagar vattam was held on the 5th March at Woodlands library auditorium. The program took place between 5 – 30 pm and 8-30 pm.
Mr G Subramaniam alais NANJIL NADAN who has won may prizes and awards for literary works, short stories and novels in Tamil was the Guest of Honour. He is the recipient of the sahithya academy award for his Tamil short stories collection ‘sudiya pU sudaRka’.
The program started with Tamil thai vaazththu followed by a classical dance by Yuvabharathi Indian International school students and Mr Shanavas delivered the welcome address. Ms Shruthi Ramesh enthralled the audience through a classical dance for the famous annamalai Reddiyar kavadi sinthu “valli kanavan pErai”.

Nizal nadakam– critical approach to Tamil movies – Chitra Ramesh
Suvai porutandru – poetry collection- Shah Navas
The books were introduced by Mr Saba muthu Natarajan, Ms Bharathy moorthiappan, Ms Azhagunila and Ms Suja Chellappan respectively.
After the book launch Mr Nanjil Nadan addressed the audience. He quoted citations as how our life and literature intermingles with the Tamil Sangam period.
He highlighted that, the literature composed by our different poets in different period depicted the mood of the poet as well as underlined the period and nature’s landscape. He advised that the writings must depict the background, though not explicitly, but through indirect notes.
The dinner was sponsored by the National Library board.
