DPM Heng Swee Keat graced the SEA ceremony and witnessed the largest cohort in SINDA’s history

On saturday, the 28th September 2019, the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) honoured 514 Indian students who had made exceptional achievements in the academics, sports and the arts, at the 28th SINDA Excellence Awards ceremony (SEA).
This year’s ceremony was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Mr
Heng Swee Keat, who spoke on the themes of education and social mobility, against an
evolving landscape.
The event took place at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.
The award recipients this year formed the largest cohort in the ceremony’s history, signalling
that more students in the Indian community are performing better and achieving excellence in their respective fields. About a quarter of the award recipients had benefitted from SINDA’s programmes and services – a testament to the organisation’s role in nurturing student aspirations and promoting a culture of holistic learning.
The ceremony was also attended by Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and
Ms Indranee Rajah,Minister, Prime Minister’s office, Second Minister for Finance and Education, joined by 1,200 guests comprising award recipients, family members, educators, as well as community and grassroots leaders.
