The Abdul Kalam Vision Society (AKVS) held its 6th Annual General on 24 March 2024 (Sunday) at 2:30pm. President AKVS, Mr. Ameerali Abdeali in his opening address welcomed the 40 members who attended the meeting at the premises of Abdul Kalam Restaurant located at 197 Kitchener Road S208536.
Mr. Ameerali said that AKVS had made very good strides in the preceding year 2023. He thanked Hon. Secretary Mr. John Ramamoorthy for his hard work in rallying support from members for the various events that were held during the year. Amongst the events successfully organised were the tree planting exercise, the beach cleaning project, and the health screening activity. It was heartening to see so many members participating in each activity and in particular to see a good number of children and youngsters doing their bit for the community. Mr. Ameerali said that the highlight of the year was the appointment ceremony of the AKVS Executive Committee, the disbursement of bursaries to deserving students and the conferment of the Inaugural Abdul Kalam Lifetime Achievement Award to Amb Kesavapany. The AKVS Annual Report was approved.
Dr. Chinnu presented the audited financial statements of AKVS which was duly approved at the AGM.
During the discussion under Any Other Matters, Amb Kesavapany stressed the importance of members to go for regular health checks to ensure that health issues, if any, are treated early. Mdm Durgambigai, head of the AKVS Women’s Committee said that she will organise more activities specially for the ladies. Mdm Suganthi felt that it would be good to have a AKVS Youth Wing she will encourage her children to participate and provide leadership in this area. The AGM welcomed the suggestions.
Mr. Nizar proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Ameerali for conducting the meeting and for sponsoring the hearty lunch that was served. Mr. Ameerali in turn thanked everyone for their support, energy, enthusiasm and dedication that had enabled AKVS become an organisation in keeping with the principles and values of APJ Abdul Kalam and thus being worthy of public support and confidence.
