Samrohana- Healing at 528Hz takes place on the 25th September 2021 (Saturday) at 8pm (Currently sold out) and 26th September 2021 (Sunday) at 5pm, at the Esplanade Theatre Studio.

Artistic direction and choreography is helmed by Cultural Medallion (1990) recipient and Indian dance veteran, Mdm Santha Bhaskar and music composition is strung together by Lifetime Achievement and Humanitarian Medallion, Dr Ghanavenothan Retnam. Script, concept and dance is by Ms Sherene Jeevitha Joseph.

Samrohana, using Bharatanatyam as the language, delves into science and healing. The concept ties the solfeggio scale ‘mi’ with its resonant frequency of 528Hz to DNA repair. This involves clustered water molecules that have this frequency and combines with the solar plexus chakra for healing. Hence, it is titled Samrohana, which means healing in Sanskrit. The project aims to bring the possibility of tying science and the arts together for a useful concept that seems to be gaining popularity – healing. With the current Covid climate in Singapore, this work is important and worthy of attention.

Sherene wears many hats; She is a mother, a biology teacher at Dunman High School, a masters’ student at NUS and a dancer. Sherene also loves the Tamil language. For the previous 3 productions she was involved in, she weaved in the beautiful Tamil language with her poetry, script and song lyrics. She is regularly asked how she manages to juggle the demands of a family and everything else that follows, especially during these unprecedented times. The short answer to the question is with difficulty and a lot of passion. Despite the role strain, she loves what she does. As such, for the love for dance, she is willing to stage this very significant work, against all odds and uncertainties during the pandemic.
