Mr Ramachandra, Founder, Jothi Stores, an epitome of integrity, passes away, leaving a successful business legacy
Jothi Stores is an iconic shop in Little India, Singapore. The shop connects with both the Indians and the non-Indians, as it offers a range of unique products, that fulfils the requirements of many.
In 1819, when modern Singapore was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles, many people, across the globe, started to come to Malaya/Singapore in search of fortune.
Likewise, a young 16 years old Ramachandra, born in 1931, in Thirumakkottai, a village near Mannargudi town, Tamil Nadu came to Singapore in 1947. His first job was with Tamil Murasu and next with Tiger Standard Newspaper as a chief library officer. This entity closed down in 1960, which opened the business doors in the life of Mr Ramachandra.
Mr Ramachandra opened a small provision shop in Campbell Lane, Little India. The shop had a humble beginnings and at that time, Mr Ramachandra would have little known that his establishment would bloom into an enterprise, with about 10,000 products, over the period of time.
Jothi Stores started to make a steady progress, as he first rented the neighbouring shop and eventually purchased the first floor of the current building. In 1992, his hard work rewarded him with he buying of the whole five-storey.
His sincerity made him extend his business to Malaysia and India. His humbleness was evident all the way, in he standing in the cashiers and attending to the customers in person.
Over all, the honest businessman is an an example for a steadfast commitment to a successful business establishment.
Jothi Store and the Jothi Trading Group, Mr Ramachandra passed away on June 19, 2025.
This humble and the down to earth self made successful businessman will ever be remembered for his integrity in life.
