On the 28th April, Monday. Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) had organised the ‘India-Singapore’s Futures Forum’, at the Amara Hotel, Singapore.
It comprised a public session and a workshop that brought together Indian and Singaporean technology experts to explore and discuss the state and potential of technology co-operation between the two countries.
Singapore’s strength make it an essential partner for India as it digitalises further, and India’s pronounced advantages in scaling technologies for public good will benefit Singapore’s digital governance.
Discussions at the forum covered four critical areas – semiconductors, financial technology, space and artificial intelligence (AI).

Professor Tommy Koh in his speech said that there is a flourishing economic relationship between Singapore and India, with a free trade agreement being concluded in 2005.
He further said, ‘In 2023-2024, Singapore was the largest foreign investor in India. Larger than the US, Singapore was India’s sixth largest trading partner. India has more than 9,000 companies in Singapore’.
He also said that there is a close relationship in defence and both countries’ armies, navies and air forces exercise together.
Associate Professor Iqbal Singh Sevea, Director, ISAS-NUS, said in his speech ‘As India and Singapore celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, critical and emerging technologies have become a vital and essential area of bilateral cooperation’.
High Commissioner of India to Singapore, Dr Shilpak Ambule said in his speech that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore during September 2024 has strengthened the ties between Singapore and India.
