LISHA’s annual diwali utsav took place on the September 7th at the Race Course Road. Singapore’s Honourable President Mr Halimah Yacob was the special guest. This year, the diwali utsav which was a street parade was attended by many dignitaries and community leaders.There were about 64 colour combinations in the decorations that was included in this year’s diwali lighting.
LISHA’s president Mr Rajkumar said that the diwali utsav is a most anticipated festival by everyone with over 600 people taking part in it this year. For the first time a chariot was designed in which the honourable president came via Hampshire road to the Race Course Road.
There were various dance program, dramas depicting the arrival of Indians to Malaya/Singapore in the ships, landing of the first aircraft in 1911 in the Race Course Road, stories showing the economic growth of Singapore through the evolving of transportation. Many more Indian cultural groups formed part of the event that evening.
Diwali Utsav was not only attended by Indians but also by other races, which attested to Singapore’s multi-cultural society.
